Christmas update

A lot to cover!

I've been doing fairly well in my program, Pre-Animation and Illustration at Algonquin college in Ottawa, ON.

My grades are good (as far as I know); but that is not the point of the program.
The focus is portfolio preparation and building the foundations of proper drawing.

It is very hard work; intensive, but sometimes I miss the fine arts. Doing a painting, not a great work of art, just a simple still life, or lovely landscape...
I look forward to the next semester though, new year, new adventure.
After that I am unsure, Illustration, Fine Arts, Animation? All have advantages and disadvantages.

Here is a little seasonal graffiti, thinking of someone special.

Merry Christmas all!

Day 19 in the month of July

Here are some shots of me at the Artisan's Village on blockhouse Island in Brockville.
The first image is my first recorded live portrait. It took a little longer than I had hoped, but I think the sitter was pleased. I need more practice though, it's a little tricky doing it live, but he stayed very still so that was nice. (I took the photo after, so it looks a little funny right next to the sketch..)

Day 17 in the month of July

Another quick digital portrait/caricature.

This is our Korean student Gyueng Rock Lee.

It's a fair likeness but I'm finding it harder on the tablet.

More practice!

It has been too long.

Here are some mini's I've been making as examples for the market.

$30.00+pst and shipping, comes with Mini Easel.

I've also been helping my friend Guy Wales with the set painting for the local Shakespeare Festival.

Day 3 in the month of July.

Here is the start of 4 paintings.

I am not particularly pleased with where they're going right now, but that is often the case when I've just started.

Day 27 in the month of June.

Hello all.

My sincerest apologies for missing so many days. A combination of business commitments and Internet difficulties have prevented me from posting regularly.

Normal posting frequncy will resume shortly.

In other news, The local 'farmers' market (there are acctually more artists and crafts-people there then fresh produce vendors) has gotten much nicer now that we're more into the tourist/summer season.

I've made a couple sales, one commision, and tons of good comments and interest in house portraits.

I've also just started a blog of specifically the progress of clients commisions called "Painters Progress".

Here is two of my four works at the McKay House in Unionville, in Toronto.

Day 17 in the month of June

Well, I felt like doing some cherries, but then, I didn't.

Had a car accident yesterday. That would be why I didn't post. I'm okay, just sore. My mom is fine too (She was driving).

We got rear-ended by a pickup truck.

Day 14 in the month of June bonus

Here's a little bonus to make up for some of the days I missed.

Day 14 in the month of June!

I'm so sorry. The internet's been acting up and I have been unable to post.

Nearing the end of this portrait, hopefully.

Good day at market yesterday, lots of traffic and interest in house portraits!

Day 10 in the month of June

Here's a graffiti (a little web program I like to play with.) I did today.  Probably 2 hrs...  you can see the whole thing speeded up if you like.  It's more the kind of thing I used to do (the subject). And what I hope to include in my body of work.  Raw emotion I suppose, or just expression practice?

If you want to see the whol thing (as blogger cuts the right side off) my Graffiti Gallery is here:

Almost didn't post tonight.  Long day in Ottawa.  Good, but long.

Ugh,  shouldn't have bothered.  I'll post something nicer tomorrow.

Day 5 in the month of June

Here's the second progress pic of that portrait I'm working on.

Just fighting with the skin tones on the face and the shapes (Proportions).
It's proving difficult due to having the face so small compared to the rest of the composition, but I think it's starting to shape up.

Day 4 in the month of June.

Just a sketch from the market.  Long day, had market till 1:00 then orientation till about 7:00.

The other is a sort of creepy caricature from memory of my dad.  I'll have to try this again cause he's not really creepy...

Day thirty one in the month of May

Here's the last lemons of the month! Just some sketches though.

It wasn't easy, and I missed a couple days, but I hope you enjoyed this months work.

I think next month I'll be focusing more on watercolours and pen and ink.

Day 30 in the month of May

Sorry there was no post yesterday.  Just completely spent after graduation.  Here's a watercolour study I did after a section of another artists oil painting (with some not so subtle alterations.)

It's on a pad of paper that's probably older than I am, and I think I need a couple new colours (or to wait longer between coats.)
